A countdown of ten different types of toys your cat may just go wild and crazy over!
10 – Tunnels

Cat toy tunnels can be a thing of entertainment to watch your kitty go wild for! It’s no secret that kitties love their hiding spaces and thinking they are out of sight. Now add to the mix a little race through the tunnel and magic!
These work with some of the same mystery the cardboard boxes do. A little enclosed space for a whole lot of safe and comfort.
Play and Exercise
The art of the chase! That’s exactly what the tunnel is about. Think of your favorite obstacle course as a youngster. Gift your kitty some of the same excitement!
Stress and Anxiety
Tunnels can offer many of these soothing things to calm down a kitty:
- A place to hide
- Cats get comfort out of enclosed spaces
- An escape from your house guests
- An escape from any other foreign animals in the house
- Another sleep escape zone
9 – Hunting Toys for Cats

There are some other types in this post that will also fit as “hunting toys.” But let’s give some specific examples to give some more depth.
Interactive Puzzle Toys
These involve a toy that incorporates solving a puzzle, trying to figure out how to get the treats, or figuring out something to make the contraption do what it wants it to do.
Crinkle Balls
Cats who like these will want to pounce, hung, swat, and bat them around. Often these will make a noise that will entice the cat.

8 – Fish

Fish cat toys can be a hit, especially if you can find ones that flop around or move. The unpredictability of the toy may entice the cat and keep it entertained for some time.
Some of these can have a plushness to them that will mimic other toys that a cat enjoys for its claws and teeth.
Oddly enough (or not) these toys can also give a cat a sense of comfort and help reduce anxiety.
This type of toy can also be a solution for teething needs of a younger cat or may help them from chewing up all the chargers in the house!
7 – Plush

Plush cats toys are often used as playtime where your cat will pretend it has stumbled upon some prey. If you’re worried about your kitty stumbling upon the wrong prey in the outdoors this may also be a good way to substitute something that could satisfy this appetite.
Add some catnip to a plush toy and you just made your kitty fall in love with you and the toy.
6 – Mouse

Is there a mouse in the house? Hopefully not a real one unless of course you enjoy that sort of thing lol
Mouse cat toys can be a hit with the right kitty. Why? Because cats like to chase things like lizards, snakes, fast moving little things…aka mice!
These toys are often easy for a cat to pounce on, swat at, and well pretend they have gotten their prey. That is indeed the game to play right!
5 – Pens with Laser Pointers

Chasing dots all around the house is a must try for cat owners! Some cats are truly mystified at why they can’t seem to ever kill the red laser dot and how it manages so sneakily to chase the cat around.
Mental Stimulation
As you can imagine, a cat is left scratching their fur on their head as to how this little dot always seems to get the best of them and work hard to outsmart it.
Don’t forget to let your cat win the battle sometimes! Nobody wants to play a game they will never win, even a kitty.
Are They Safe?
While this question tends to pop up in research, when used correctly, yes! As with humans, there are right and wrong ways to use lasers. For instance, you would never shine a laser directly into your eye or a cat’s eye.
It’s important to read through all best practices, instructions, etc. just to make sure you’ve got it down before playing with your cat.
4 – Wands

What does your cat love more than you? Cat wand toys controlled by you!
As with some of the other types these toys can bring about:
- Exercise
- Hunting fun
- A way to interact with you and some mental/physical stimulation all in one
- Chasing
- Pouncing
- Cats showing off some wild Olympic moves!
- Less stress from losing the toy underneath the furniture
- Entertainment
- Bonding for you and kitty
3 – Cardboard Toys for Cats

It might just be statistics, but the day has not yet come where I’ve been witness to a cat not liking cardboard boxes…hence the drumroll for the cardboard toys!
Bring ’em on!
- Scratching posts
- Cat Houses
- Cat Balls
- Cat Tunnels
- And more!
If you own a cat, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you had at least one experience or photo of a cat making you laugh of their use of cardboard or a cardboard box.
The comfort, texture, and often the noises to be made inside cardboard are an attraction for cats. It’s a win, win!
2 – Cat Toys with Catnip

Some cat toys come with a bag or other variation of this magical spell made for cats. While not all cats fall for this nifty plant, many of them do and can be an amazing accessory to toys.
Why Do Cats Usually Love it?
“Cats love catnip because it makes them feel good. As your cat licks and rubs on the herb, the release of nepetalactone sets off a euphoric reaction. Scientists aren’t sure exactly why this happens, but many believe cats are responding to the nepetalactone as though it is a pheromone [1.]“
In other words, it’s the perfect way to drive a cat wild by setting off the right part of their brain.
Expend Some Energy
If you’re looking for your cat to relax, try giving some catnip about 30 minutes before bed to let them get the playtime and stimulation from this out of their system. “The affects last on average 5 to 15 minutes [2.]“
For Your Own Entertainment
While you want your kitty to play and relax, it is usually quite entertaining to watch a cat roll, purr, rub their face, and flop around in catnip.
Some cats turn to darting, racing, and zooming around the house so put away all your valuables LOL
1 – Refillable Catnip Toys

I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t we just talk about catnip? Yes we did, however we didn’t talk about REFILLABLE catnip toys. Getting toys that may have a pouch or other spot to keep putting fresh catnip may be just the ticket!
It’s hard for cats that love catnip to refuse a toy that seems to repeat this enticing scent over and over.
Because so many cats go wild for this of course this had to be Number 1!
